The ALIEN franchise is a beloved one because of the intense fear and horror the original flick inspired in film goers so many years ago. However, after the second installment the franchise went terribly awry. The subsequent films were so-so at best and with only occasional scenes being good or memorable. Fans had high hopes with Ridley Scott returned to the ALIEN universe with Prometheus, but were let down with his lack of proper development and details. It was a largely ambiguous film that needed maybe five additional minutes of footage to make it go from so-so to quite good. That said, no one knew how ALIEN: COVENANT would do. It did well enough to take the #1 spot from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY...

BARELY!

I happened to go out and see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, so my review will be up tomorrow.
